Los Angeles Galaxy Needs To Sign Ronaldinho

by Daniel on July 26, 2010

So the other day I was thinking to myself what the Los Angeles Galaxy may be conjuring up to match the recent headlines the New York Red Bulls have grabbed by signing not one but two notable international stars in Thierry Henry of France and Rafael Marquez of Mexico...

Well it wasn't long before I spotted this article: MLS Owner Hints Ronaldinho On His Way To LA Galaxy.

The news makes perfect sense to me...

With the recent signings in New York, you can say whatever you want to say about the quality of play in the MLS but you also have to admit that the talent level is starting to get better. At this point the Galaxy may just be keeping up with the Joneses or foreseeing a move by Landon Donovan to Europe or a severe decline in the play of David Beckham when he returns.

Ronaldinho is now, was and always will be a more talented player than David Beckham and in my opinion this is the guy the Galaxy should have signed in the first place. The Galaxy signed Beckham because he and his wife Posh, fit perfectly into LA's Hollywood vibe but those fans, as I'm sure the management has figured out, don't continue to show up to games if they ever do at all. At some point you have to focus on the soccer on the field and that's why I think Ronaldinho would be the perfect fit for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

He may no longer be in his prime but he won't have to be to dominate in MLS and Ronaldinho is exactly the kind of soccer star that Los Angeles really needs. The Galaxy needs someone that can make you say WOW when you watch him play on the field and Ronaldinho is that guy.

And most importantly signing Ronaldinho makes the Galaxy relevant again. They may be winning but they're not very exciting right now and Ronaldinho definitely makes them exciting again.

FC Dallas vs. Galaxy Preview

by Daniel on May 20, 2010

From: Goal

The Galaxy will be playing their first game without the league's leading goal scorer and assist man - Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan - because of their participation in the U.S. national team camp in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.

Donovan is guaranteed to be heading to South Africa with the U.S. team, while Buddle is still trying to earn his place in the final 23...

The Galaxy's injury list also includes defenders A.J. DeLaGarza, Sean Franklin and Leonardo, midfielders Dema Kovalenko and Eddie Lewis, forwards Alan Gordon and Bryan Jordan, and Donovan Ricketts, who are all listed as questionable.

Also from Goal

One of the major things that distinguishes Los Angeles from other clubs, beside the obvious point differential, is their uncanny ability to create scoring chances. Even if the ball isn't bouncing their way, an opportunity is bound to be forged. Even more astounding, four out of their last five goals have been netted by someone other than Edson Buddle (nine goals) or Landon Donovan (eight assists).

That last stat is crazy but it shows you how deep the Galaxy are stacked. Bruce Arena has brought in a lot of veterans that can play his system and while they might not be able to play a full 90 effectively, they can sure come in and close.
